History of the Manor

The History of Wedevåg Manor

Wedevåg Manor in Bergslagen dates back to the 17th century and is today a venue for weddings and private events in a historic setting. Here, among the grand salons and the tranquil manor park, history continues to live on – not least through the estate’s perhaps most famous resident, the ghost of Tekla.

Who was Tekla?

Tekla was the wife of the mill manager and lived at the manor until her death on December 30, 1914. She was known for her firm hand and her dedication to both the household and the mill.

Today, Tekla sometimes makes her presence known by moving objects or tapping her cane on the floor—just as she did when she wanted to summon the servants. With us, there is no need to be afraid – Tekla watches over the house with warmth, and here one always feels welcome.

The Manor’s Historic Legacy

As early as 1637, a grand estate was built on this site. It was later replaced by the present manor, with its oldest wings dating back to the 18th century. In the vaulted cellars – now home to our wine cellar – you can still trace the atmosphere of the 17th century.

During the 18th century, Wedevåg Works became Sweden’s leading exporter of arms, and the manor welcomed both royalty and noble families. Until the 1930s it served as the residence of the estate director, before transforming into a distinguished villa for representation – where legendary parties and crayfish feasts were held.

Tradition Meets the Future

Wedevåg Manor is a place where history and tradition meet the present day. Memories live on through cherished annual celebrations such as Midsummer festivities with live folk music, dancing around the Midsummer pole, and gatherings in the manor park.

Today, the manor is cared for by the Maglić family, who have preserved its rich history while opening the doors for new stories to be written through exclusive rentals of the entire manor for weddings and private events.
